Small Holder Farmers
(0 votes)

East Africa Fruits Farm offers an opportunity to farmers by working with them through ongoing training and support until the point of harvest where we purchase their produce specifically fruits and vegetables.

By working hand in hand with farmers we help them get funds by training on finance literacy, record keeping and agronomy; by using our farmer database we refer farmers to financiers who offers them on going extension support until harvest time where we buy the produce

Our company provides non financial services to smallholder farmers as clients of financial services to enable them to utilize finance services effectively. We do this in the four key aspects below:

Training farmers on financial services

With our partners, Claphijo Enterprises, we offer training to smallholder farmers in different parts of Tanzania in the areas of financial literacy, agronomic training and record keeping. This training has also involved knowledge on best agriculture practices for farmers to ensure best quantity and quality of yield.

Offering Agronomic / Extension support to smallholder farmers

We provide ongoing extension support to smallholder farmers using our extension officers who guide them step by step since planting to harvesting, ensuring they apply the best agriculture practices.

Market assurance to farmers

We work in contract with farmers as we do in our core business by buying their produce after harvest. By so doing, we have widened farmer’s markets while reducing their level of post harvest losses. This has ensured the funds that they receive from financiers are well utilized and repayments are done accordingly.

Farmer database

We have developed software that allows us to maintain farmer records in a systematic way, including their volumes of transactions with the company, sales, expenses and profit. By so doing, we can refer them to financial institutions and offer them reliable records whenever needed.

Main engagement with small holder farmers includes:

  • Organizing farmer groups for trainings in various parts of the country.
  • Contracting farmers of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Hiring extension officers.
  • Offering extension support to farmers.
  • Purchasing produce from farmers and using our cold chain logistics, transport and store the produce, process and sell to customers.
